[영어] 계란 프라이 종류: Sunny side up
계란 프라이 종류를 영어로 어떻게 표현할까요?
얼마전 지인 초대로 허드슨 강이 보이는 레스토랑에서 식사를 했네요.
주요 메뉴로 “Steak N Egg” 가 있어서 주문했는데, 어떤 계란 프라이를 원하냐고 물어보네요.
그러더니, 아래 표현대로, “Sunny side up”, “Over easy”, “Over medium” & “Over hard” 가 있다고 설명을 해서 새로운 단어를 배웠네요.
How to fry an egg?
1> Sunny Side Up:
The egg whites are fully cooked and the bright yellow yolk is resting on top. The yolk stays visible because the egg is never flipped.

Over Easy:
Over easy eggs have a runny yolk, much like a sunny side up egg, however the yolk isn’t as visible.

Over M
edium:
Over medium eggs can have yolks that are still quite runny to only slightly runny. The spectrum here can be quite wide. Most of the time, over medium eggs have yolks that are only about half way cooked through.
4> Over Hard:
Over hard eggs have yolks that are completely cooked through. You can either break the yolk to hurry the process or you can allow the yolk to harden without breaking it.
일단, “Over medium”으로 주문했는데, 앞으로는 “Sunny side up”으로 해야겠네요.
노른자가 위로 있는 모습을 ‘Sunny’ 로 하고, 노른자가 한쪽 위에 있는 것으로 ‘side up’ 이 사용된 듯 합니다.
다른 3개 표현은 ‘Over’ 로 전체 프라이 상태이고, 다시 ‘easy’, ‘medium’ & ‘hard’ 로 노른자의 익은 정도를 표시하네요.
카툰에서 “Juggling eggs” 가 인생의 메타포로 비유됩니다.
